Ingredients

  • For The Cake:
  • 3/4 cup white sugar

  • 6 egg yolk

  • 2 Tbsp hot water

  • 6 egg whites

  • 1/3 cup white sugar

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1 1/2 cups flour

  • 1/3 cup milk

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract

  • For The Syrup:
  • 1 can Evaporated Milk

  • 1 can Condensed Milk

  • 3/4 Cup Half and Half

  • 1 tsp Vanilla

  • For The Frosting:
  • 2 Cups Heavy Whipping Cream

  • 2 Tbsp powdered Sugar

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350F. Butter a 13x9-inch baking dish or spray with baking spray.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a medium bowl, beat the egg yolks with 3/4 cup sugar on medium speed until pale and fluffy for about 5 minutes.
  • Beat in the vanilla. Pour into the flour mixture and beat just until combined.
  • In another bowl, beat the egg whites on high speed until foamy and doubled in size, about 1 minute. While beating, slowly pour in 1/3 cup sugar. Continue beating until stiff peaks form, about 3 minutes.
  • Using a spatula, fold the egg whites into the flour/yolk mixture in two batches, until even. Pour the batter into the cake pan.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool until slightly warm. (The cake will fall and shrink as it cools. This is normal!)
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the condensed milk, evaporated milk, and half and half until well combined.
  • Poke the cake all over with a fork. Slowly pour the syrup over the cake.
  • Cover and chill for at least 3 hours or overnight.
  • In a large bowl, beat the cream, sugar, and vanilla on medium speed until soft peaks form. Spread over the cake when ready to serve.
  • Garnish with fresh berries, dust of cinnamon, or drizzle with chocolate.
