Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups evaporated milk

  • 1 1/2 cups sweetened condensed milk

Directions

  • Pour condensed milk and evaporated milk into a heavy-bottom saucepan over medium-low heat.
  • Stir constantly with a spatula until the filling approaches the consistency of thick caramel, about 30 minutes. Don’t stop stirring or the milk will stick to the bottom and burn.
  • Remove from heat; the mixture will firm up as it cools to room temperature.
