Ingredients

  • 3 cups water

  • 2 sticks cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg, grated

  • Orange peel

  • 4 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped

  • 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk (not sweetened condensed milk)

  • 1/2 heavy cream

  • Sugar to taste

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1/8 tsp salt

Directions

  • Place the cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and orange peel with the water in a heavy-bottomed pot. Bring the water to a boil for 20 minutes. Lower the temperature and add the chopped chocolate, stirring until melted.
  • Add the evaporated milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla and salt.
  • Serve immediately while hot, or make it a day in advance for a deeper flavor.
